Sponsor Shabbat on the Beach
***ONLY 1 SLOT AVAILABLE***
Our spiritual and relaxed Shabbat on the Beach is a beloved MJCS tradition. As the sun sets into the ocean, Rabbi Michael and Cantor Marcelo, with our wonderful musicians, will lead us through eight magical Shabbat services with wind in our hair, sand between our toes and friends all around us.
Sponsors will be recognized in Shabbat on the Beach promotional materials and with signage and an announcement at the Beach.
Limited to two sponsors for each of our eight 2018 Shabbat on the Beach events. (July 13 – August 31)

NEW MJCS CARING-CHESED COMMITTEE
*** $2,000 START-UP GOAL REACHED!! ***
Chesed: noun – loving kindness. the attribute of grace, benevolence or compassion.
Our new Caring-Chesed Committee is ready to get going, but needs $2000 to seed the start-up. Community-wide support will ensure that our volunteers can bring meals to the ill and their families, to those recovering from surgery, to families with newborns, after a funeral and during shiva, and for Jewish families moving into Malibu. Our goal is to develop the capacity to also visit the homebound and ill, organize minyan for shiva, reach out to those in emotional distress, and to warmly acknowledge simchot (happy occasions) such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Scholarship Fund – Education & Membership 2018-19 / 5779
Inclusivity is essential to our mission. Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue is committed to provide a Jewish spiritual home and Jewish Education to our entire community, regardless of a family’s ability to pay full membership or tuition. MJCS provides over $60,000 per year of financial aid in the form of Religious School tuition, Preschool tuition and membership discounts. Your generous support makes it possible for us to continue providing Jewish education and synagogue membership to all families seeking a connection for themselves and their children here at MJCS.
General Fund
We can’t do what we do without the generous support of our members and friends. As with many synagogues, MJCS Membership Dues represent only part our annual budget, and contributions like these are essential to our successful operations.
Your contribution to the General Fund allows us flexibility to put your donation to work where it’s needed most: staffing, operations, facility maintenance, programming or other expenses that go into creating the comprehensive programming, services, education and support our synagogue provides all year long.

Cantor Marcelo’s Music Programs
We all love the music at MJCS and it is because our Cantor is extraordinary and he brings a unique spirituality through music. Throughout the year, Cantor Marcelo arranges for a variety of musicians to join us and take our services and programming to new heights, culturally and spiritually. That costs money. This fund gives Cantor Marcelo the ability to plan Musical Shabbat concerts, High Holidays chamber orchestra, Chanukah Concert and much more.
Rabbi Michael’s Programming
One of Rabbi Michael’s priorities as our new rabbi and creative Jewish educator is to pilot fresh, new programs and experiences that make MJCS a cultural and learning center as well as a spiritual home. These new programs will be a kind of “laboratory” for exploring what will become a sustainable model for our community going forward: new adult education classes and programs for seniors, a series of themed “pop-up restaurants” using our kosher kitchen, a vibrant teen program, a synagogue trip to Israel, Jewishly relevant arts programs, and invigorating holiday celebrations in and outside of our sanctuary (like our May 19th “Shavuot Progressive Dinner & Learning”).
This fund will allow Rabbi Michael to explore and create new traditions for our community. What better way to welcome Rabbi Michael than to contribute to this fund!
Preschool Enrichment: Yoga, Drumming, Soccer, and More

As with most private preschools, our ECC tuition covers only part of our annual cost of operation. We count on additional support from our community to help bridge the gap between tuition and the cost of the quality preschool program we provide.
Our MJCS ECC Preschool provides fun and developmentally appropriate enrichment, such as yoga, music, drumming and soccer, each led by a specialists in the field. Our goal for this fund is $5,000. Thank you for providing an extra donation to support these special programs!

Yoga: A time to relax, reflect, balance and build core strength.

Music: Engages the sense of hearing and integrates the mind, body and emotions. Also facilitates language development and is a great form of expression.

Drum to Learn: Drum Circle program helps develop listening skills and encourages following directions while children enjoy the sounds of the drum.

Super Soccer Stars: Teaches teamwork and strengthens gross motor skills. The classes are geared towards each child’s developmental level.
Note: Specific programming can change from year to year. Your contribution will support our General Preschool Enrichment Fund.
How do you Un-Gala?
We are changing the dynamic of the high pressure Gala where you’re asked to do all of your giving during a 5 hour event over a chicken dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice to sit at home with your loved ones and really think about your choices and choose to support the programs you care about in our community? We invite you to personalize your giving. And do it in your pajamas, if you like! And then, come to a really fun party. Bring your Malibu Style and leave your fancy pants at home.
Step 1: FUNDRAISE IN MAY:
Here on our website from May 1st – 31st you’ll find all the ways to support MJCS and the programs that are most meaningful to you. Our goal is 100% participation, so please explore. Personalize your giving with a combination of UnGala Giving options we’ve created, based on what you’ve told us is important! From Shabbat on the Beach to Preschool Enrichment or Cantor’s Music Fund, you’ll find the things that move you. As a “Thank You” for giving, donors at or above certain levels receive complimentary or discounted tickets to the June 2nd Party and other special recognition.
Step 2: PARTY IN JUNE:
On June 2nd, let’s be together and have a great time. We’ll celebrate our community and welcome Rabbi Michael. With the fundraising out of the way, we’ll be ready for some fun! Come after dinner. Bring your Malibu Style. Expect to find MJCS transformed into Malibu Nights, an evening of champagne, wine, abundant desserts, live music, DJ, lots of dancing and a few surprises. In addition to just loving the idea of getting together for a great party, it’s our way of saying “Thank You” for a successful fundraising campaign.
