Filled with mystery and Jewish Jerusalem mystique, our selichot tour will take us deep into Jerusalem’s various neighborhoods in the week leading up to the Ten Days of Repentance (Teshuva) and in the midst of the preparations for the High Holy Days. It is a world whose complexities are filled with spirituality, stories that are brought to life between the alleys of the neighborhood of Nahlahot and within the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. We will learn all about the differences between Sephardic and Ashkenazi customs in the days of Repentance; discuss the meanings of the different “Piyutim”, their authors, and the times in which they wrote. In the final days of this passing year we are obliged to converse, make amends and request for forgiveness; observe in retrospection the passing year, view our actions, and repent. Through a virtual journey among the various synagogues and hearing the prayers chanted by locals, we will bring this unique period to life.
